What to do in Curarrehue
Curarrehue or Kurarewe, in Mapuzungun “stone altar”, integrates a wonderful natural and cultural heritage embodied in its natural reserves and the Mapuche heritage of its people. This mountain range is located 39 km from Pucón and 152 km from Temuco, in the Araucanía region. It is a border commune with Argentina that stands out for its territory constituted largely by reserves and National Parks protected by the State. 100% of its surface is part of the Araucarias Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO since 2010.
Its population, mostly rural and of Mapuche origin, works on an identity tourism proposal that draws on local heritage. The conservation of the rich ancestral traditions, materialized in the customs and living forms of its people, makes Curarrehue a privileged territory of the Andean lakeside area.
